Some favorite memories are working on Sing Joyfully, and being the fool in Abbott’s Bromley. Revels offers a world we’ve lost but always have. It matters because we are on the verge of even the world we know diminishing and almost disappearing. Robert: enormous musically and humanity. Betsy also musically but also for her ability to deflect tension in rehearsal with humor and warmth. Luckily she’s still in my life in her role as a fiddler in English Country Dance. I learned a lot from Robert’s knowledge and feeling for Renaissance polyphony, which extends for me beyond voice–his influence is felt for me in playing this music on recorder ; his openness to music and cultures new to him (2013 (Eastern European show for example). Betsy, same flexibility and openness to music of all kinds–and she sings too! Wonderful to have her in the alto section her first year.
