2026 Midwinter Revels Audition Details

NOTE: ADULTS, TEENS, AND CHILDREN ALL AUDITION ON THE SAME DAYS.
Please refer to the audition form for specifics on time slots for teens and children. Each person auditioning needs to fill out a form. You will be automatically slotted into the time you select. You’ll receive and email copy of your response confirming your time slot.
Adult and Teen cast members typically:
- Have some previous experience as performers, such as singing in a chorus, performing in theatrical productions, performing with a dance troupe, etc. Cast members should feel comfortable being on stage.
- Have some experience learning music and lyrics. A robust ability to sight-read sheet music is not required, but general knowledge of sheet music is very helpful. It is necessary that cast members have a good musical ear and can learn and memorize music and lyrics.
- Come from a wide range of ages, races, genders, body types, communities, and abilities.
- Teens are current high school students (typically 15-19 years old) and Adults are all ages, post-high school graduation and up.
The audition:
- Each audition block is 30 minutes in duration.
- Please prepare a short solo song to be performed a cappella / unaccompanied. The song should be a traditional song of some kind, e.g. a folk song, a holiday carol, a traditional children’s song/lullaby, a sea shanty, or a religious song/hymn. The song should be about 60-90 seconds long (usually 1-2 verses of a song). For this audition, please do not sing musical theater songs, jazz standards, pop/rock songs, or opera arias.
- You may be asked to do some vocal exercises or ear training assessments, guided by the music director.
- There will be a group portion which includes learning a new song and singing with a small group of other singers.
